Talent Monitor: ICT labor market in figures

Despite the market turning, there is no sign of any relaxation or serious decline in scarcity in the ICT labor market. This is evident from the latest 2023 Talent Monitor. Demand continues to exceed supply, and with all the further digitization, automation and AI developments, there is no sign of a decrease in demand for the time being. AI may also start to cause the necessary shifts and replacements within the field in the medium term of the profession.

Talent Monitor: ICT labor market in figures

This Talent Monitor focuses specifically on ICT professionals and provides insight into various aspects of the labor market. Such as development of vacancies/assignments, labor market activity, job changes, sourcing pressure, pull factors, employment conditions, the most desired employer, the most in-demand and fastest growing ICT skills and information about rates. So an awful lot of interesting data points, including the following:

  1. The field of I(C)T continues to grow. This is the expectation based on previous growth from and further development in the areas of automation, digitization, robotization and AI. A growth that in the past year can be attributed entirely to the increasing number of self-employed workers.
  2.  IT and aging are not an issue within ICT workers or the IT sector. Legacy systems and skills are. All the more important to be well informed, especially about the fastest growing ICT skills among agencies and employers.
  3. The scarcity is huge and recruitment feasibility is and will remain very difficult in the coming years. The target market is especially latent, which indicates greater recruitment complexity and implies a sustainably different recruitment strategy.
  4. In particular, internal mobility and retention is a difficult phenomenon for ICT professionals. Because of the high degree of specialization, moving on internally or filling other roles is difficult. Therefore, often a follow-up step outside is more logical.
  5. However, more and more IT professionals are taking matters into their own hands by looking for an interesting employer/client themselves or have their agency/account manager do this for them. Talent managers and talent pools are the success formulas for permanent and flex.
ICT professionals are again taking the lead in where the labor market is moving. And that movement could just be one of further professionalization and fewer excesses. Curious about all the data and insights? Download the Talent Monitor here.
